Okay, I'm here on behalf of my mother. Her NAV unit (and radio etc.) recently just stopped working. The car is still under warranty, and we took it to the dealer. They couldn't figure out what the problem is and long story short, they say it's going to be something foriegn in the unit (penny, paper clip, etc.) that caused it to short circuit and that is NOT covered by the warranty. They want $4200 to replace the unit.
So, we are looking into other options. Alpine offers at MSRP a dvd nav unit for $1700 and 2din A/V unit for $1100. Significantly cheaper than $4200. However I don't know about the fit and details etc. I assume it's a 2din size unit, but don't know for sure. I am also betting that it's a custom size for the faceplate and don't know if there are any aftermarket faceplates or something of that nature.
Basically we need to replace the unit at the lowest cost yet still keep it looking good (no gaps around the new unit and whatnot).
The Audiworld forums were my biggest ally when replacing the sound system in my A6, so I come here asking for help. I don't know the year etc. of the car at the moment, but can certainly find out.
If you need to know anything else, please ask.
Thanks a bunch!
