This is cylinder #1. Probably a cracked ring that led to a complete erosion of the underlying part of the piston. 1.6L miata motor from Rebello racing with <10 hours.

The motor lasted for about 10 minutes before my Sunday race (3 hr enduro at NHMS) ended in the same way Kimi's did: a big cloud of smoke.

The motor seemed soft in qualifying, where I was inexplicably about a second off pace of the guys I usually run with. I got a great start to (11th -> 5th) which put me where I thought I belonged, but I was unable to hang with anyone on the straights and started moving backwards fast. Then in the space of one lap it got completely anemic and BAM. Got to watch the race with the EMT guys 'cuz I parked it in a place where I couldn't get back to the paddock.
