The second shot is perfectly sharpened in my opinion!

Here's a crop from a much larger image taken with the 35L. Focus was on the mother's eyes. This is straight from the ACR, only minor levels adjustment in Photoshop, no sharpening applied. My 24-105L definitely needs some additional sharpening for same results.
