    Haze in landscape shots...

This is one of many shots I took on a recent trip to Grandfather Mountain in NC. It was a crystal clear day. Like the one below, just about all of my landscape photos, were 'hazy' although the views themselves weren't. I was hoping for more depth in color & contrast but the haze seems to be masking a lot of it. I was able to address most of it in PP but I'd prefer to have a better quality image from the beginning. I'd appreciate some guidance as I live within minutes of the Blue Ridge parkway with tons of great shooting spots and want to make sure my technique is correct. The metadata is as follows. TIA.

    TV mode
    f/8
    1/160
    focal length: 50mm
    ISO 100 (auto)
    Cannon 40D w 28/135 f/3.5-5.6 IS USM
    Polarizing and UV Filters
No lens hood (don't have one)
