    Nobody uses tripods. In general, banned at Olympic venues, world cups, etc. Wouldn't want one

    anyways, as they would prevent about 90% of the photography you do.

    As MichaelTM mentioned, they screw into the lens mount.

    600mm with a DSLR weighs, say, 12-15lbs (give or take), and that takes a quality monopod to remain stable. Many hold it, but not with stability.

    I use Bogen/Manfrotto's best pods (not expensive, say $60) over Gitzo and similar, as twist/screw mounts often freeze up and/or slip in high heat/cold weather.
