Hi wanting it get an idea from people what sort of fuel economy I should be getting with my Golf.

I recently brought a 2L GLI automatic "Der Estre" model 1997. It seems in very tidy condition with 90,000Ks on the clock.

However I have been finding the fuel economy very poor around town. Approximately 8 kilometres to the Litre.

I have also noticed a lot of engine pinging when under strain.

What sort of economy do others get?
