I'm looking at moving from my trustworthy mercedes diesel machine to a jetta MK2, carat, diesel. It was a conversion from a gas car from a seller who declares himself to do diesel conversions as a profession (references, etc).

Anyways, the claim is that it gets 40-44MPG and it's fast. Further, he rebuilt the engine himself w/ .40 pistons and GDI injectors. Replaced all of the necessary parts from the fuel tank to the exhaust.

the body has 200k miles but the conversion occured 4 years ago at 185k and many things were replaced/restored to excellent condition. The trans is custom w/ tall gears.

The price is steep; however, the only diesel stick that I could find with automatic windows/sunroof/etc that pulls better than 30mpg is my own mercedes diesel CONVERSION. Apparently people who are utilitary enough to want diesel sticks are also too utilitary to purchase electric windows and such.

AAAAnyways i was curious if someone in or near albany would look at this thing for me. Perhaps for a fair price or even a favor (hahaha right i know 1 post and i deserve a favor?). Further, a good reference for a diesel mechanic for inspecting the jetta around Albany. I am in norcal- i can make the trip but i'm very busy at the moment, and I would prefer to have a better idea to if i'm going to buy it.. The asking price is $6500- i know... i know... that's a lot. I will only purchase a vehicle i'm willing to fix myself! plus, i like the MK2-- I assume anything is more comfortable than the mercedes seats.

Any comments on this crazy rant?
