Recently, I added a can of R-12 refrigerant per the instructions to restore air conditioning cooling in my 92 GTI 2.0 16V, which had slowly diminished over the past few years. Cooling was immediately restored, but lasted only one day because all the refrigerant had leaked out.
Is there a pressure relief valve on the AC compressor that may have popped (opened) due to possible overfilling? If so, is there a way to reset the pressure relief valve or to replace it? Or is it more likely that refrigerant line seals are the culprit? A bypass (jumpering) of the refrigerant low pressure sensor does cause the AC compressor to engage.
Your help is greatly appreciated since it's been getting pretty hot here in D.C. metro!
Thanks in advance.
