HD-DVD owner. Blue Ray - wait till next year?

I got an HD_DVD player really cheap about 16 months ago. The Toshiba A3 with 5, or 6 movies for $125. I'll move it upstairs and be happy using it as an upconvert.

Should I get a Blue Ray DVD player, or is the technology not ready. I heard I needed to wait a year.?

I want a stand-alone player.
