My wife and I are in the process of buying a house, and right now we only have a 24" CRT tv that I had in college. We want to pick up a tv for the bedroom soon, maybe black Friday sale, but I'm not sure which size or brands to look at. We don't know any dimensions of or room or where the furniture will go yet, so I know some of you may say to wait, but I don't want to miss any great sales. We will buy from best buy, because we have about $200 or so in gift cards from them. Early next year we will pick up a larger tv for the family room.

I am thinking a 32" for the bedroom because my wife doesn't want anything that will dominate the room, but I am also nervous that it may be a tad small and I am thinking a 37" might be better. My guess is viewing distance will be about 12' or so, and that should mean a 32" would be fine.

I will be viewing mainly cable SD programming, so I don't feel spending the extra money on a 1080p or 120hrz set would be worth my money at this point. Is that pretty accurate?

What brands and models should I look at for bang for the buck? I have seen some pretty good prices on some Sony and Samsung sets lately.
