I'm well pleased with my Oppo 970. Great picture quality, plays any disc and CD replay comparable with CD players costing up to $500. But it's SACD replay is a bit basic. I don't know I could expect any better from a machine so cheap though. The player as a whole is great value.
If there were enough desirable SACD titles out there I'd buy a fairly posh player I think. I used to have one - Philips SACD1000. Retailed at $2k and I got one at a Tweeter close-out for $400 6 years ago. It lasted less than a year. Given what I've read on a couple other audio websites, so did everyone else's. Philips refused to repair them and just gave straight refunds.
That machine sounded really classy with both CD and SACD.
